Building a practice through referrals and online presence

I wrote a post a couple of months ago about my niches and realized how it doesn't make sense to "speak to everyone." I am trying to set up a repeatable process that I will stick to, so I can grow my firm from where it is.

Where I currently am.

$10 million under management, 1.4 million of that is FIA's.

Average fee 1.1% on advisory assets. Net profit (after B/D cut and all expenses is $60,000, maybe more)

MCOL area, remote area, 1.5 hours away from Charlotte, NC.

I have 4 stated Niches on my website (not ideal, I know)

I have time to burn, I have about 25 households I do full planning for, I have 15 others that are younger clients that have small balances with me.

I co-own a tax practice and make a salary from that, but focus primarily on the Financial planning side. Most of my growth is from tax clients. I want to have another avenue of getting clients than from the tax firm as it will only go so far and we are in a remote area. I have done a lot of marketing but nothing consistently, and I want to change that. I had success doing some seminars but they are very hard to pay for and get people in there.

What I want to do

Since I have a lot of time on my hands (especially in the summer), I want to start posting on social media to build a following and potential clients that I could onboard and service all REMOTELY. I know this will take a year or two before I get any results, but its better than what I am currently doing.

NICHE DOWN: I only have a handful of clients, but I love working with Engineers and high-income professionals with stock compensation because I am very analytical and I can give tax advice, which the high earners love.

I would only post topics specific to Engineers or high earners, nothing about business owners, etc.

I have one contact at a large company that would be a very nice COI, if I can get him to refer me. He was open before, but I didn't follow through.

My goal is to get clients remotely, as I live in a remote area, and not shrink my opportunities to only people living within a 50-mile radius.

I would love some advice from people who are focused on the same thing or have tried this in the past. I am always looking to get better at managing the practice and marketing.

I have a client who has moved from South Carolina, worked there over 20 years and is about to retire in the coming years. She has a PEBA statement showing her 401(k) balance and 457 but nothing else. She has been unable to access her online account since she left her old job and Empower and PEBA is usless to call, they just say "its a issue with our system". Well my client hasnt been getting updates/statements on her account in several years.

I am trying to get her online access to the account but we are stuck. I am going to try and call Empower one more time to see if they can at least give her a statement.

If someone has had this issue before, please help. its been several months and we are getting no where.

EDIT: Empower cant find her in their system when we give them the SSN, DOB, anything.
