Can supervisors require you to communicate with your personal cell phone?
So our supervisors took away our govt cell phones last month. Since then my boss has been sending semi-regular text messages to my personal cellphone outside of my scheduled hours with work related instructions (send this report to so-and-so by 1300, email so-and-so with the status update on x, etc). Obviously I ignore them outside my work hours, but she expects us to "acknowledge" her messages. I don't think she can tell me how and when to use my personal device. I'm also not super comfortable receiving work messages on my personal device. I provided my cell phone number so I could be contacted in case of emergencies or so I can call out sick, not for my phone to be used for regular work communication.
