So my sons and I threw up a couple of 12' X 12' hunting cabins these past few weekends. Simple lean-to (2.5:12) with a front door, and 4 small (2'X3') windows. Simple, but structurally sound. We built these in West Texas and had to take everything (tools/supplies/etc...) that we needed in a trailer, but got it done.
One thing that was left behind was the Tyvek house wrap. So basically, it's 5/8 T1-11 over studs. I'm not super concerned about draft efficiency so much, but I am concerned about bugs and moisture, as the wife may come out occasionally. Eventually, we'll drywall it out, but it is, after all a hunting cabin that we'll only be staying in a few times a year for a few days at a time.
Was thinking, that since we didn't get the Tyvek in, should we caulk all the stud to siding seams, insulate it, and put a barrier under the drywall? Or is that overkill?
Like I said, it's way out west, with the average rainfall being under 20" per year, and hot as Hades during the summer months (it was 96°F last weekend). I don't think I would have a mold issue either, as it's so dry, but I'm by no means an expert. Obviously. LOL
And lastly, we weren't planning on putting in roof ventilation, but with it being so dry out there, would it be necessary? Heck, we were toying with the idea of not covering the ceiling at all. We were out there with an 8K BTU portable AC and even without any insulation at all, the little AC kept it cold without a problem.
Anyway, thanks in advance!!
