Needs suggestion for Project Management certification

Need some career advice regarding PMP/CAPM certifications.

I currently have 7 years of experience and work in Marketing Operations/Salesforce Marketing Cloud. My work mainly involves campaign operations, email marketing, stakeholder management, reporting, automation, cross-functional coordination, and some technical work with SQL and marketing platforms.

One thing I’ve realized is that if I continue progressing in my current path, the roles become increasingly technical, and I’m not sure that’s the direction I want to take long term. Instead, I’m looking more toward techno-functional roles where I can combine my hands-on operational experience with stakeholder/project coordination responsibilities.

Because of that, I’m considering PMP, assuming that having a recognized project management certification alongside my existing experience could add value to my profile.

I wanted to understand from people already in the field:

  • Would PMP actually help someone with my background?
  • Is PMP valuable for Marketing Operations / Martech / Campaign Operations roles?
  • Since I already have 7 years of experience, should I directly go for PMP instead of CAPM?
  • How important is hands-on project management experience before pursuing PMP?
  • Did PMP help you transition into better roles, leadership, or higher pay?

Would really appreciate honest advice from people who’ve taken this path.

Thanks!
