I’m a government guy looking to transition to overseas contracting. This job was for embassy work with a well known subcontractor under a well known prime.
I’m nowhere near a COR, and I have touched on contracting before as a fed. However, I was overwhelmed with the depth of the conversation with terminologies and processes- essentially out of my lane.

I was told that this was a pay-to-play to fulfill the prime’s staffing contract with the customer. Additionally, information was shared that the subcontractor was one of a few other companies that have a work-share agreement. From what I understand, it was a “best athlete” approach and that this particular subcontractor wins more than half the time. Also I was told that the prime’s contract is a 5 year option period, with the a secured federal letter of intent on period 2.

Customer wise, I was told that a final decision hasn’t been made as to where the position will be actually based (a couple options). Though the contact technically starts at the end of this June.

Overall the interview went well, and was given a job offer with a salary contingent on 1) selection by the prime 2) government funding. The hiring manager told me that he already submitted my name forward to the prime even before the interview.

I’m a little confused by the interview, but i’m guessing this was just over sharing by the hiring manager. With the start date rapidly approaching, are gaps in customer requirements common? Any insight on federal contracting in this context would be greatly appreciated!
