Hi folks,
We’re looking at buying our first property. We’ve had an offer accepted on a ground floor flat, and we noticed a 2 on the Home Report for damp.
We’ve had a damp survey done and they’re suggesting:
- 2.5k to install a dry wall membrane internally
- lifting up the flooring to inspect the timber underneath (at additional cost)
- getting a builder to lower the ground outside the wall, as it’s currently high against the wall, causing some damp (at additional cost)
I’ve seen mixed reviews about whether something like this is just part of buying an old Edinburgh property (this was built in 1900) or whether we should steer clear. As it’s our first purchase any advice would be appreciated. We’re new to all of this!
