Cabinets to Go sells pre-made cabinets, and when they arrive they’re still in the box. They suggest hiring an independent contractor to do the install, and we did hire the person they recommended.
Cabinets to go asks for your measurements which seemed very risky, so I paid them to do the measurements (twice).
They produced a design for our space that included cabinets on three kitchen walls, an island, counter tops, and a kitchen sink.
We were new to remodeling so we didn’t know what we didn’t know. For example, they happily sold us a kitchen sink that was way too deep to work with our drain. The only solution there was to eliminate the garbage disposal, since 1)the countertop was already installed, and 2)the drainage couldn’t be adjusted because the pipe came in laterally behind the new cabinets. There were other lessons we learned the hard way that a contractor could have guided us through. If I had this to do again I would NEVER use Cabinets to Go.
The next issue is that the drawer faces have cutouts for hinges, since those same panels can also be used for regular cabinets. And the cabinet doors had a counter-sunk hole on the top and bottom, for a single knob. Cabinets to Go said all of those extra holes was normal and they sent me a picture from their showroom to prove their cabinets were as cheap as ours.
The next problem was the very large sized sink cabinet that was installed in our bathroom. Cabinets to Go fired back quickly and said that’s what we ordered. "Check your Docusign", and "you can't return it". They did offer to sell us a replacement at a discounted rate.
The cabinet molding was supposed to go to the ceiling, which they later acknowledged, but three months went by and it was never fixed.
Another issue was that the cabinet over the fridge didn’t fit for some reason, so they substituted a shallower unit, and reduced the width of the supporting panels around the fridge. Now we have six extra inches of fridge showing on both sides.
Notice how thin and cheap the island fascia looks. I think the total thickness is a quarter inch. The corner fascia has already fallen off a couple of times and we haven’t even finished installing the floors yet. I’m sure the island will fall into a heap of junk if we ever need to move it.
What do you all think? Would you use a custom cabinet builder? Do you still recommend Cabinets to Go?
VERY thin fascia, stapled together -- JUNK!!!
Doors & Drawers -- what's with all the extra holes?
Comes with only one hole, and it's countersunk....
Poor design work by Cabinets to Go - exposing more fridge than planned, and a smaller cabinet
VERY Poor design work by Cabinets to Go - doors don't line up. Spacer is not professional.
