Are 1.5 reps effective?

So I workout at home with 7kg dumbells and I'm in the 20 rep range.

So I could do 17 reps of lateral raises in one set and by using the 1.5 rep technique my reps dropped from 17 to 8 and I felt happy that I could challenge my muscles again. I did the same for shoulder presses and the reps drop was huge. Today I did the same with bicep curls and I went from 22 to 7-10 rep range.

I just wanna know if the 1.5 rep technique is effective or not, thanks.
