St Gotthard Pass or Splügen Pads?
Hi all,
I'm planning a cycle touring trip in July from Zurich to Rome (so I'll have some gear, though packing light) and have narrowed down my options for crossing the alps to the St Gotthard Pass or the Splügenpass.
As I see it, pros for St Gotthard are:
- option to take the train in case something goes wrong, I like the redundancy
- interesting / unique descent via the Treomla road
Pros for Splügenpass are
- much quieter in terms of traffic
- route will follow lake Como after the descent which looks nice to cycle down
Both ascents looks similar regarding gradient / length.
Which would you take? Thanks!
