Help cleaning window ac unit

I need any advice people have for cleaning this without removing it. I'm in a small 3rd floor apartment and removing it isn't an option.

My main issue currently is trying to get those grey grates off without breaking them. It feels like one big piece, and I'm worried if I pull too hard they'll snap.

Will also accept any recommendations for cleaning the coils behind the filter.

And the show wouldn't exist without the books. It's an adaptation of an existing property that people have been fans of for decades. If the original post is about the show, but there's something in the books that might be relevant to the discussion, why wouldn't you want that information?
