Using MIDI files and Audio Loops is not Creative - Sue Me

Look, I know you can do a lot to manipulate and fuck around with existing audio files. But I’m tired of pretending like using other people’s music or sound files to create your own “creations” is creative. It has hints of creativity, and there is an aspect of it that takes skill in using a DAW and applying effects, sure. But compared to the act of recording your own playing, using live or even digital instruments, or the feeling of creating your own synth presets that you play note for note, there is absolutely no comparison to be made. Playing in your own notes is 100 times more fun, it demonstrates 100 times as much skill and musical knowledge, and is waAayyyyyy more satisfying in the end.

As much as I love the plugin world and sound pack world, I really don’t like it when someone I respect makes an awesome drum pack or serum preset pack, but then also tries to sell me “Pre made MIDI files for each sound!!” Or full on “atmospheric loops for low fi music!!” Like for me, that’s half the fun of producing is finding those sounds on my own using my taste in scales and chords, and my taste in digital instruments. I’d just much rather create such loops from scratch. And tbh? It blows my mind that not doing that is even possible. Forget about AI for a few minutes - preset packs are already pissing me off and have been since I started producing.

You can sue me if you want to, but that’s just how I feel man. Does anybody else agree????
