No, not a pro reviewer. Saw April X at a theater screen that had a 44 seating capacity. It was obvious they didn’t expect a crowd. The seats were less than half filled for the mid-afternoon matinee. The evening showing only had two seats pre-sold when I looked a few hours ago. So how was it? Can’t say I enjoyed it but it was interesting. Connor’s character was in desperation for almost the whole movie. There were a few fleeting moments where I saw a familiar expression. The plot was not hard to follow, contrary to some reviewers complaints. The themes are familial love and self-sacrifice. Just before the movie started there was a Peloton ad. It would have been so funny if it had been Hudson. But no, it was Miley.

Not sorry I went, but not likely to “ reheat.” Not a bad first movie and Connor had better roles to come.

Edit: this theater in suburban Minneapolis is dropping to only a single showing per day for the rest of the week and the movie is gone by next Friday.

The NYT sports column called The Athletic published an article about how NHL “blood feuds” on the ice are not as common as they used to be. The lede:

Of course, Duchene followed that text up with another one about how cool it was that Foligno would get to play with his brother, Marcus, and how genuinely happy he was for him. There wasn’t an explicit invite to the cottage this summer, but hey, that’s always implied.
