Wanting to apply but applications just closed, any advice?

I have decided at 30 that this is what I want to do, after many dead ends.

Spent the past couple days researching linemen, wiremen, substation, traffic light tech and ultimately decided to look into inside wiremen

On my locals site it says applications are closed and applicants have 30 days to turn in information, im really bummed out, I was thinking of calling them when they open to ask what to expect of when applications might open again

Is there anything in this downtime that would be better advised?

I really want to go Union 100%.

My two most successful friends after all these years are in the trades, one is a union pipefitter and the other a non-union electrician, non union guy still makes absolute bank and has worked gigs for SpaceX and owns a house while younger than me.

Best friend is a Union pipefitter, well he makes good money but he does bust absolute and total ass 50% of the time, but can’t really save any money, as hes taking care of his elders but hes able to support them and that says something
