Hi guys- feeling really weird and wonky right now. In such a frustrating job market, I was on a high after a great interview at a coffee chain today and was basically told I had the job. Was interviewed by the manager, this older guy around 35/40, and had a totally normal conversation and at the end he had offered me his phone number to send him my availability in the coming weeks which I thought was kind of odd but didn't think much of it and thought it just solidified my position. Later on today I googled his name bc I do that with literally everyone and all of these news articles and court cases came up... turns out hes a level 2 sex offender for hacking into a bunch of college girls' socials (like 150 women) and downloading nude photos. Was even investigated by the fbi.
This all happened like 10 years ago, but I feel like it is really weird for this company to put a guy with that background in a position of power, and his entire staff was all college-aged girls. Idk, I get the Fair Chance Act and everything, but as soon as I discovered his history the whole interview felt so uncomfortable in retrospect. The job is literally steps away from nyu too like everything about the situation feels so icky. I guess I'm just wondering if this is a normal situation at all? I'm definitely not accepting the job if offered because there is no way i would feel comfortable working around this man. I guess it is might be common in nyc for there to be offenders in charge? idk just wondering if anything similar has happened to anyone else
