With this political stalemate in reaching the magic number for majority, and while intense horse-trading (குதிரை பேரம்) is happening, DMK has a potential trump card — a bold and intelligent move they can make. Especially, this is something Udhayanidhi should take the lead on.

Udhayanidhi should call for a press meet and say:

“We respect the people’s mandate. The people have given the highest individual seat count to TVK. While they have not reached the required majority and there is a visible struggle to form the government, in the interest of public welfare, the peace of Tamil Nadu, and to avoid குதிரை பேரம், DMK is ready to extend unconditional support to TVK to form the government.

However, before extending this unconditional support, we have one important condition.

There is a genuine question among the public regarding Vijay’s capability. While he has earned the support of around 1.5 crore people, more than 3 crore people in Tamil Nadu have not supported him. On behalf of them, I would like one concern to be addressed before we extend our support.

Vijay has not yet demonstrated his individual capability in a direct and transparent way:

  • He has not interacted openly with the press
  • He has not spoken without a script
  • He has not personally visited and met the families of incidents like the Karur stampede victims
  • He has not conducted widespread, direct public engagement across all regions

There is a perception that he is disconnected from the people. To be honest, many still don’t clearly know who he is as a political leader or what he is capable of.

So, I invite Vijay for a public one-on-one discussion in front of the media — without scripts, without assistance, and without anyone feeding inputs. I will also come unprepared, without notes, and alone.

This is not a fight. This is a discussion.

I want to understand his vision:

  • How he plans to implement his election manifesto
  • His approach to issues like ganjaa eradication
  • His plans to address women’s safety and welfare

I will ask questions, and I expect answers directly from him.

There will be no personal attacks, no disrespect — only a healthy discussion. In fact, calling it a debate may be too strong — this will be a constructive public conversation.

This is not new in global politics. Countries like the US have such discussions. Today’s Gen Z is asking for change (maatram), and this could be a meaningful step in that direction.

If Vijay truly believes in himself, if he can speak from the heart without a script, if he genuinely has plans for governance — and above all, if he has the courage — I invite him.

The reason for this condition is simple: I am taking responsibility for the 3 crore people who did not vote for him. I want to give them a valid and transparent reason for why we are supporting Vijay to form the government.

Let Vijay respond. I want to hear directly from him — not from anyone else — because he is the Chief Minister candidate.”

Analysis of the Strategy

Now coming to the analysis of this strategy — this move has several political advantages for DMK. Let me break them down.

How Udhayanidhi Will Be Seen

Even though DMK may have lost the election and TVK is struggling to form the government, Udhayanidhi stepping forward and offering support to end the crisis will be viewed as a mature and statesman-like move.

Instead of aggressively trying to pull MLAs through குதிரை பேரம், DMK would appear as a party prioritizing:

  • political stability,
  • public welfare,
  • and the peace of Tamil Nadu.

That itself creates a strong image for Udhayanidhi.

At the same time, his request for a direct public conversation with Vijay can also be projected as a fair and democratic ask. Vijay is asking to become Chief Minister, and naturally, people would expect him to openly discuss his ideas, policies, and governance plans in an unscripted format.

So politically, Udhayanidhi scores on two fronts:

  1. Responsible governance approach
  2. Leadership confidence and openness

Checkmate Situation on Vijay

At such a critical political moment, if Udhayanidhi publicly extends this invitation, Vijay cannot completely avoid responding to it.

He would have only two choices:

  • Accept the discussion
  • Decline it with a convincing explanation

The strategic calculation here is that Vijay would most likely avoid such a direct unscripted conversation.

The perception DMK supporters may push is this:

Udhayanidhi comes from a deeply political background shaped by decades of Dravidian politics, public speaking, ideological exposure, constituency management, and political debate culture through leaders like Karunanidhi and Stalin.

In contrast, Vijay’s political communication so far has been highly controlled and carefully scripted.

Because of that, DMK may believe that an open political discussion heavily favors Udhayanidhi.

If Vijay declines, DMK can frame the narrative as:

  • Vijay is uncomfortable with unscripted political engagement
  • Vijay can only function within controlled environments
  • Vijay lacks readiness for difficult policy discussions

Since this challenge would be issued during a highly sensitive government formation phase, it could gain massive public attention across Tamil Nadu and create long-term pressure on Vijay’s political image.

If Vijay Accepts (Highly Unlikely Scenario in This Analysis)

If Vijay actually accepts, it would instantly become one of the most watched political conversations in Tamil Nadu politics.

Questions could range from ideology to governance to policy clarity.

For example:

“Your slogan is ‘Pirapokkum Ella Uyirkum’. Can you fully explain what that means politically and socially?”

Or:

“You often reference Periyar as an ideological influence. Periyar said:
‘Do not blindly believe anyone. Even if I say something, question it, think independently, and seek clarity.’
What does that principle mean to you personally? And would you say the same openly to your supporters today?”

Questions like these could continue into:

  • governance philosophy,
  • women’s safety,
  • prohibition,
  • caste issues,
  • Dravidian ideology,
  • economic plans,
  • law and order,
  • center-state relations, etc.

The larger point is that such a discussion would test spontaneous political depth, not prepared punch dialogues.

Symbolic Reversal: “Mudhalvan” Comparison

Many Vijay supporters emotionally relate him to the fictional “Mudhalvan” style leader — someone who challenges the political establishment.

But with this move, the symbolic dynamic reverses.

Instead of Vijay becoming “Pugazhendhi,” Udhayanidhi becomes the one publicly calling the potential Chief Minister candidate for accountability and discussion.

That itself changes the political optics.

This entire approach may sound cinematic — but today’s political environment itself has become deeply cinematic. Public attention is driven by emotion, personality, mass appeal, and high-impact moments. When voters are drawn toward larger-than-life leadership images, this kind of political challenge naturally becomes a powerful mass-connect opportunity for Udhayanidhi as well.

Vijay has repeatedly argued that Udhayanidhi is merely a product of family politics and lacks independent merit. This challenge creates an opportunity for Udhayanidhi to directly counter that perception.

If Vijay truly believes he possesses stronger vision, leadership clarity, and the courage to engage openly, then this becomes the perfect stage for him to demonstrate it before the people of Tamil Nadu.

In that sense, this is not just a political invitation — it becomes a test of confidence, communication, leadership depth, and public accountability for both sides.

And if handled effectively, this move could help Udhayanidhi weaken the narrative that he survives only because of dynasty politics, by presenting himself as someone willing to openly engage, defend his ideas, and face scrutiny directly in public.
