WDC Earnings Rightfully Priced In

WDC had beat expectations but STX earnings came first.

I don't know if people here noticed but STX after their earnings was flat or generally dropped while WDC was the one gaining off of their earnings report. Go take a look at a 5-day chart.

So naturally when today we were a few percentage points off of STXs EPS and forward guidance you could say our gains were priced in. The direct comparison is going to cause some selling short-term. That being said, the long-term look it's very irrelevant

Canter Fitzgerald made a direct comparison to Seagate on the earnings call. It's a natural question to ask. C suite mentioned that the source of any idea of slowdown would be due to noise from lta's ending and beginning. Also different product mix purchases by consumers. Also, briefly mentioned some LTA discussions extending out to 2031 and focused on some transitional aspects to HAMR.

I'd rather it not go down but short-term shouldn't matter and makes sense

WDC Upgraded to $1k

Cantor upgraded WD up to $900 and $1050 by Melius.

The thesis remains. HDD is limited availability up until 2027/2028 and will not be able to ramp up production to meet demand and holds high pricing power.

A notable shift today for 6/29 was a divergence from HBM like MU and SNDK. News out of Korea and China seemed to affect flash but opposite effect on HDD.

Would be smart to see if buyers are starting to distinguish these two types of memory companies on different metrics.

Hopefully more good earnings while thesis holds on HDD availability
