MY PARENTS DONT WANT TO PAY FOR MY COLLEGE
BACKGROUND AND ADVANTAGES
I’m an 18-year-old girl who just finished high school and I want to study law.
First of all, I’m not from a financially struggling background. My father is in the army with a stable and good income. My entire schooling has basically been heavily subsidised or almost free.I studied in KV, where my fees were like ₹1800 for three months in middle school and around ₹3000 for three months in high school. Even in army school, a large part of the fees gets reimbursed basically my education was free .
On top of that, there are army benefits ,ration benefits, CSD canteen, discounts on goods, travel rebates, housing in cantonment, and so many things.
We don’t pay rent because we lived in army quarters. Even when we moved out temporarily, there is a rent allowance , and actual rent is lower than that. We get ration allowance too. Electricity, water, basic stuff everything is covered or subsidised in some way. We don’t live a lifestyle with unnecessary expenses. No big trips, no luxury spending, nothing like that.
AND I UNDERSTAND ITS ALL BECAUSE OF HIM AND I AM GRATEFUL FOR THE ARMY LIFE I WAS GIVEN BUT ALL I AM SAYING IS THIS MNY BENFITS AND SAVING STILL NOTHING FOR MY EDUCATION ?
So my question is where is the money going?
PROBLEM
Because now when I want to go to college, suddenly I’m being told there is no money for a proper university or hostel. But at the same time, there is talk about spending large amounts on land, property, and saving money for my marriage ,like lakhs and even dowry related savings which is apparently more important than my education.
I want to study law and I want to go to a good college NLUs specifically. I understand they expensive, around 15–25 lakhs or even more for the full course. I genuinely understand that. But there are other options too. I can go to colleges like DU, BHU, and other government universities where the fees are much lower. I know getting into them as a general category student is very hard, but I am willing to study for it and try my best.
The problem is, they don’t want that either. The irony is that they don’t want me to go to Delhi or any good government college because I can’t live far from home. I’m expected to study only in the same city where thwy live.
I just don’t understand this at this point. They openly say things like if they spend on me, what will they spend on my brother because my brother is more important than me.And at this point I feel completely stuck and confused. There is no clarity at all no proper yes, no proper no. Just expectations without direction.
If money is the issue, I can plan around it. If distance is the issue, then tell me clearly what my actual options are so I can prepare accordingly. But right now I’m just blocked from the paths I actually want to take, without being given any real alternative.
