I am commissioning a 100% custom, 1/12 scale action figure (engineered from scratch). The character is a "heavy-set/dad bod" Quantum Steampunk design. Total cost is $900 for unique engineering, sculpting, and printing, and I need this to be a "workhorse" for photography and kitbashing. I swap parts (forearms/hands/heads) frequently and move joints into deep poses, The artist is using high-end resins (specifically Siraya Tech F80 for the elastic body parts and Tough resins for the skeleton) and it's going to be in scale with mythic legions.
My Questions Are:
Friction Wear: In your experience, how does resin-on-resin friction hold up over hundreds of poses? Does the "white powder" grinding eventually lead to floppiness that can't be fixed?
Cold Environment: I live in a very cold environment (AC maxed 24/7). How much does temperature contribute to resin "shear" or snapping during part swaps?
Hybrid vs. Full Resin: Should I push for a "Hybrid" build where the torso/head are custom resin, but the arms/legs are factory-molded PVC (e.g., Mythic Legions or Storm Collectibles) for the sake of durability?
Maintenance: Are "workarounds" like silicone shock oil or clear-coating pegs actually effective for long-term play, or am I just delaying an inevitable break?
I want this to be a masterpiece, but I'm terrified of spending $900 on something that I'm too scared to touch. Any advice from customizers or engineers would be appreciated.
