Archery with an injury to non-dominant arm

Context is historical fiction, early 14th century. My main character is injured in battle and needs to flee into the wilderness. I have currently written this injury as a deep slash to his non-dominant forearm, which misses anything particularly important in the way of nerves/ tendons/ vessels, is bandaged and eventually heals without causing lasting impairment. Could anyone with experience of archery comment on how long after the injury he'd be able to use a bow for hunting?
