inner diameter

As I was working on my own lever machine I was wondering what would be a smart inner diameter for the brew chamber (and outer diameter of the coil). I will use a 58mm portafilter. I know, the wider the higher the resistance of the coil. But the thinner the longer the travel shaft becomes. Does it make a difference to the puck fif the pressure comes from an "inner circle" inside the outer lines of the filter? Is it better when the outer diameter aligns with the outer diameter of the filter? Or do you think it is irrelevant to the puck as long as the water covers the puck in he same moment?

Another espresso machine?

Hey, I am currently studying mechanical engineering and I want to start a side project where I build my own lever machine which will direct to a newer la pavoni or an odyssey argos. But there are things I would change which I think are not really needed and make an argos cost 1200€.

My question ist now: the longer I plan the machine the more I think there is a gap in the market for people that do not want to spend over 1000€ on a lever machine, steam milk and do not want to deal with temperature problems.

Now I think about starting a small business but in the past few months it felt like any new machine could not beat an already existing machine.
Is the market already saturated?
