Being required to work a 24-hour shift as a nurse in CA
Location: California
I work in home health in CA and this company routinely has staffing issues. I worked the the shift and it's looking like they won't be able to find coverage for the day shift for this patient. So I will most likely be required to work a 24 hour shift. This seems illegal and a risk to patient safety. I'm wondering what I can do? I know overtime is a big deal in medical facilities, but believe it's different for home health. I've already reached out to my supervisor and scheduling documenting my concerns regarding patient safety, but nothing has been done beyond acknowledging my concern. Any advice would be appreciated!
Edit: I work in private duty nursing, not home health. I didn't realize there was a distinction.
