As title suggests. I've had this a couple of times where they say, ‘you will hear back in X weeks’, just for it to be double that time. Currently being strung along for nearly two months now following an AC. Each week they say ... next week. What causes this? I'm going slightly insane.

Forgive my ignorance, but what actually causes these delays? From the outside it feels like it should just be a case of reviewing scores and making decisions. What are grad recruitment teams doing behind the scenes that makes this take so long? Do they reject the obvious way off candidates? Would be intrigued of any insight.
