MacMini - Work Around - Power to Front Panel Wiring

I'm wondering if anyone else has done a work around. I have a 2014 Mac Mini - The front panel FCL connector has gone south. But everything else seems OK.

I have been told that the only thing the MacMini needs the front panel for is the power function control. So that's only two wires needed. The Power button + and Gnd. Has anyone ever just provided a wire jump from the rear panel high to the front panel cable to get a work around?

Seems like it might work - and would save me from throwing out an otherwise good logic board.

I'm looking for opinions

Thanks,

Mac Mini

I have a question for the group - I've been refurbishing 2012 - 2014 Minis - getting the hang of it. All the power supplies look the same. Is there truly a difference between builds? Could you elaborate, please?
