This toadstool frag was wedged into a hole I shaped for its base size at the time I got it. for the last year it’s been attached and growing at an angle so that top was horizontal. A couple weeks ago the base of toadstool at the rock just with limp and now it’s folded over with the top vertical. the first couple days it was closed up like it was shedding, it fully opened back up a week ago with with base remaining limp.

Does the base look dead? If so should I cut it off? my only theory is that the base couldn’t get out of the hole enough as it grew and and couldn’t shed.
