Hi everyone, I’m looking for some peace of mind regarding an ongoing Background Verification (BGV) process with a major agency.
The Situation:
I recently joined a new company after a very short, stressful stint at my previous employer. The workload was extreme, and the relationship with my manager was toxic (he had already pushed out several other people before me). Ultimately, I was given a "probation non-confirmation" notice and exited shortly after.
The Paperwork:
I don’t have a formal relieving letter yet, but I have a clean email from the previous company's HR explicitly stating my official Last Working Day (LWD). This email does not mention the reason for leaving or the probation status. I have submitted this to my new employer as proof of exit.
The New Job:
I was transparent during my interviews. I told my current manager that I left because of a mismatch in management style and an unsustainable workload. My new manager is very supportive, but I haven't explicitly used the technical term "non-confirmation" with HR—I just framed it as a mutual separation.
My Concerns:
The Manager: I’m worried that if the BGV agency calls my ex-manager, he will be vindictive and mention the probation status or internal disciplinary emails sent during the friction.
The "Reason": If the agency finds out it was a non-confirmation, does that count as a "Red Flag" even if my employment dates and title are 100% accurate?
The Current Boss: How much does my current manager’s support matter if the BGV report comes back with negative subjective feedback?
I’ve been incredibly stressed about this. Has anyone been through something similar where a "bad fit" exit caused issues later? Does the BGV focus more on factual dates or the manager’s personal opinion?
Thanks in advance.
