Need honest advice from people who’ve done AMC Clinical (IMG)
I recently cleared AMC 1 and I’m now planning for AMC Clinical, but I’m honestly very confused about what the smarter move is.
Right now I’m stuck between 2 options:
Option 1:
Stay in hostel, focus properly on AMC Clinical prep, and try for the June booking (for Sept–Dec exam slots, ideally Nov/Dec). I might keep a very light job just for CV continuity, but studying would be the main priority.
Option 2:
Vacate hostel, go home, work for a few months in India (JR/corporate hospital type job), and then try for the November booking for Feb–March next year.
My main worry is that AMC Clinical booking seems super competitive now. I keep hearing people say they needed multiple attempts just to get an exam slot, so I’m scared that delaying booking might backfire and push everything much later.
At the same time, I’m also confused about how much Indian work experience actually helps later for getting jobs in Australia. I don’t have financial pressure to work right now, so the job would mainly be for experience + CV.
Some people say work experience is really important, others say clearing AMC Clinical earlier matters much more.
Also—if choosing between:
a smaller hospital with more hands-on clinical exposure (ICU/ER/labour room etc)
vs
a bigger corporate hospital with more admin work but bigger name
which is actually better for future job prospects/interviews?
If you were starting again as a fresh graduate, what would you prioritize first—earlier AMC Clinical attempt or stronger work experience?
Would really appreciate honest advice from people who’ve actually gone through this :)
