A theory on how the house resets, concerning the house manager.

Many people believe >!Mrs. Babbage!<, the house manager, is the one who resets the house and grounds for Simon, physically returning to the estate after he calls it a day and retires to his tent. This is because of >!the letter she leaves Simon, found the day after he collects his first allowance token!<.

But I think it something else. I think the daily reset is a >!lab experiment that Herbert has named after the house manager, Mrs. Anne Babbage. "A. Babbage”. A computer!<.

The house manager is a real person (of course) and that she’s still employed, but she’s not the one resetting the estate (>!or producing Simon's allowance!<). It’s a red herring to keep Simon unaware of the >!power and capabilities of the computer system!< until later in his journey.

We know that >!the computer system!< can do things required to reset the estate >!BEFORE downloading the datapacket from the satellite dish!<. It can:

>!Manipulate the draft pool!<

>!Upgrade floor plans!<

>!Manipulate drafting cost, door types, and door access!<

>!Distribute a weekly salary!<

>!Distribute coins, dirt, and fruit!<

>!Understand the state of doors, chests, and terminals (when Simon is accessing them)!<

>!Alter Simon’s attributes (steps, gold, gems, keys, stars, allowance)!<

>!Add and remove physical items from the estate and grounds unrelated to drafting (chests, letters)!<

Most importantly, >!the system can track in-game time and understand today and future days (the timed safe in the bunker, staff salary)!<

After >!the packet is downloaded!<, there are even more examples such as r>!emoving crates, drafting today vs tomorrow rooms, unsealing antechamber doors (doors outside drafting rooms), understanding which floor plans are upgraded!<.

Its entirely POSSIBLE for >!the computer system!< to reset the house and grounds without requiring a>!n actual person to do it!<. It can >!physically manipulate the estate and understands how to carry over/reset/remove attributes from day to day!<. And the >!lab experiments!< give us a framework where it could be triggered:

>!Every time: [Simon calls it a day], [Reset the draft pool, place allowance in the entrance hall, redistribute tools, set attributes to 0+(integer)]!<

But what about >!Mrs. Babbage!<?

We know Herbert is fond of testing puzzles/antagonizing his staff in ways that… maybe not received as intended. Such as:

>!Leaving Hartley Ruota the lake house in Trinsdale and “entertaining the notion” of employing Mrs. Babbage as Hartley’s house manager.!<

>!The elaborate system of coded notes Kirk Darren is required to write and leave around the estate in the name of “security”!<.

>!Randolph Moore’s internal conflict between following Herbert’s orders and helping Simon with puzzles he feels may not be intuitive!<.

It would be completly in character for Herbert to “entertain the notion” of >!enforcing Mrs. Babbage’s leave of absence during the transition by automating her daily duties.!<

>!Mrs. Babbage!< doesn’t like the >!“electronic typewriter” (as shown in her emails), and has only a personnel-level access account.!< He may find the "humor" of using a thing >!she doesn’t like to do her job in her absence!< too entertaining to resist.

On the meta side, >!Randolph Moore as the head of SYNKA research!< is most likely an allegory to >!Intel co-founder Gordon Moore (and his famous ‘law’)!<. >!Anne Babbage!<, a second >!computer!< related last name, just feels like a very Blue Prince hint at a connection for us to discover.

So yes, >!“A. Babbage”, a lab experiment that tirggers when Simon calls it a day!< , is the one resetting the house and all that comes with it while >!the real Mrs. Babbage is struggling to enjoy some time away from the estate!<.

At least in my head canon.
