Berry Patch Maintenance
Raspberry and blackberry patches were here when we moved in. I’ve not done much to maintain them, but this year I am really trying to fix up our backyard! These patches are very prolific yet unsightly and I’m wondering if there is a way to tie them up so I can maintain them better.
For the raspberries: can I dig up some of the established raspberry shoots and move them further down the fence so all the raspberries are in a line?
For the blackberries: the vines are so long and reach over to take root so I have just folded them back on themselves for now.
The patchy area was a massive dirt pit that my kids played in for a long time, but we are trying to grow grass there now.
The blank space between the two berry patches is in progress. I have planted three blueberry bushes and intend to plant the strawberry plants around the front side of the blueberry bed. Is that an OK idea?
