NGRI Defendant needing insight re: State Hospital
Hello friends —
I am currently an NGRI defendant and will be acquitted on 5/22. In the state of Missouri, any dangerous felonies require commitment within a state hospital (Fulton State Hospital in my case). I suffered my first manic/psychotic episode postpartum, sought care at a local hospital but was unfortunately discharged while still psychotic - and in less than 24 hours hit a man with my car thinking he was the devil when he was chasing me.
Anyway - super nervous being sane going into a state hospital (15 months of stability and a lifetime before the accident). Anyone have an idea what I can expect or a timeline for release? It feels like a waste of the states resources to have me there but I can also understand the judge not wanting to accept liability.
