Can I press charges?
Location: California, San Diego
Working in the mall at a yogurt kiosk when two girls approach with two empty cups. I had seen one of them on the cameras before and they had stolen. I took the empty cup from the one I had seen stole already since I knew that's all they wanted to do. The other girl began to threaten me with violence so bad. That, "I'll go to jail for you." She said word for word. And continued to threaten with me violence so bad that she would have to be imprisoned. I didnt move a muscle or say a single word to either of them. I began to turn my machines off so they couldn't take anything else. Neither of them actually touched me but they threatened, harassed, called me slurs and everything under the sun. Security ushered them away but they came back. Screaming profanities at me again. I began to record at this point, I have this recording of them acting violently and have them both in the video to be identified. Other videos of them also exist and there is security footage as well. They began to violently assault one of the mall workers who was trying to keep them away from me. And one of their friends snuck up behind me and began to snatch my phone, trying to take it, pushing me, disrupting my footage and kept trying to steal my phone. I got her in the video as well. They were taken out of the mall and I was too busy trying to close my shop to keep up with them. And I was afraid of getting too close. Security approached me and told me police had came and spoke to the girls. I asked if police wanted to speak with me. They didn't, which I found strange since I was at the heart of the incident.
From what I know nothing of importance was done, the girls feigned that they were from out of town and were going to leave soon anyway. One of my mall coworkers found out that no, they are from here in town, and the initial aggressor, who screamed that they were a minor, was actually 19 and graduating from the local high school in a few days. I am infuriated at the entire thing, that they were able to say such horrible things to me and even hurt a coworker of mine. How can I proceed and press charges against them?
