So annoyed 🤬 - period immediately after first infusion

Hello! I JUST had my first infusion after being low iron for more than 7 yrs. I’m so fucking annoyed right now as I got my period more than one week early!

I’m researching and reading “yep it can affect your hormones” but am so curious about an instant period. Does anyone know why this would happen? And wouldn’t it happen after a few days, not like 16 hours later? Should I anticipate a period after every infusion? I am typically extremely regular.

Waited years for hematologist, how to prepare so I get adequate treatment?

Hello! I’ve been dealing with very low ferratin levels for years now. 6 yrs ago, I got gastric sleeve surgery and my annual bloodwork has shown levels in the teens and now down to single digits. Every single time, doctors shrug and tell me to supplement. I have tried supplementation and my levels remain low. I go to doctors complaining of low energy, cold, muscle pain, hair loss. Each one sees the low ferratin levels and shrugs. I’m on a bunch of drugs to help for those things individually, no one seems to put it together that these are iron related.

I had a physical with my doctor and prepared him saying I was concerned my levels were 14 and I’d supplemented really consistently, wanted to talk if they were still low. They ended up being 9. He told me to try supplementing 🙄 I pushed back and asked for more and he finally referred me to a hematologist and my appointment is coming up (yay).

My plan was to:

  • give a brief history and symptoms
  • mention that I’d received infusions when I had my child
  • bring print outs of at least 3 yrs of bloodwork
  • bring the supplements I currently take

Anything else I should do? I will be crushed if they tell me to try supplementing again and offer nothing else.
