Why Was the Death of a member Kept Secret?

Just wondering also: we recently received news that a sister, who was a nurse, passed away. We don’t know the reason why.
But she actually died months ago. Why are some leaders or older members trying to hide it or avoid speaking about it or informing others?
Is it a practice of the church to keep deaths or information about someone’s death a secret?

Personal Experience in WMSCOG

For those in living Philippines who are considering attending or becoming involved with this church, I would simply like to share our personal experience to provide another perspective. What you conclude from this is entirely up to you. I am not trying to convince anyone to agree with me or to discourage anyone from attending.

My wife had been a member of this church for several years, while I attended for almost a year. During our time there, we experienced several situations that led us to have questions about certain teachings and about how some of our concerns were handled.

During Passover in 2025, I personally heard a leader ask my wife why she had not been expelled after we had a baby. I understood the question as being related to moral considerations concerning our relationship. For me, that was an uncomfortable experience.

On another occasion, I noticed a new member wearing a shirt with symbols that I personally found concerning, including the number 666. I expressed my concern to a leader, but I was told that addressing the issue might hurt the new member's feelings. I found the situation difficult to understand from my perspective.

There was also an occasion when I used my cellphone during worship and was personally reminded by the pastor about it. Although I understood the reason for the reminder, I felt that the overall experience was uncomfortable for me. At that time, however, we continued attending and remained committed to the church.

Later, my wife conducted her own research into some of the church's teachings and older materials related to them. She noticed similarities between certain teachings we encountered and materials associated with other religious organizations.

We also noticed some differences between certain older materials and teachings and what we were hearing at present. These observations raised additional questions for us, so we continued doing our own research and comparing different sources.

I am not saying that everyone will reach the same conclusion that we did. These are simply our personal observations and the results of our own research.

After we left, we also heard some negative comments concerning my wife. We found those experiences disappointing and hurtful. However, I do not want to publicly name or accuse any specific individual.

For anyone reading this, my advice is simple:

Ask questions. Read the available sources. Compare older and current materials. Do your own research. Then make your own informed decision.

I also do not believe that all members or leaders of the church are the same. Your experience may be completely different from ours.

For us, after reflecting on our experience and conducting our own research, we decided that we would no longer continue our involvement with the church.

Take care, everyone. I hope that you will have the opportunity to make an informed decision about your faith and the religious community you choose to be part of.

Question

Is it a common practice within the World Mission Society Church of God for a deacon to spread rumors about an ex-member?

If such behavior occurs, do the pastor or elders report it to the head offics?
