Unfixable gaps in LVP, poor structure below floors in bathrooms - flippers, ugh
Newbie to this sub. We bought and live in a 1,300 sf 1980s ranch house that was flipped before we bought it. We love it in general - just the right size and layout for a couple of aging baby boomers. My husband is pretty handy, has been fixing and improving a few things, and we (our contractor) just added a super nice screened-in porch on the back (so nice here in the south). I want to paint the interior because I don't love the gray (hate the gray), but that's not in this year's budget.
My flooring questions - 1) using youtube, my husband has successfully fixed several gaps that have opened up between the LVP planks that run throughout the house - pulling them back together, I'm sure you guys understand the method better than I do).
But some, he says, are unfixable - as far as he can figure out - because of where they are (they go around a door frame, or are against a wall).
I'm frustrated by these gaps and wonder if there's any other way to fix them or HIDE the gaps (sealant, silicone caulk?) Was this flooring improperly installed.
- The other issue with the floors are some soft spots, especially in the two bathrooms. It seems like they may have installed them before repairing the joists/subfloor. Flippers, ugh. I've thought of just pulling the LVP up in the bathrooms, fixing the subfloor and installing LVT, something that looks more like bathroom tile.
Part of me wants to just rip these floors out and do the job right, but these floors are pretty new, and we don't want to over-invest for our neighborhood; my husband has put these in before, but at his age, he's not about to do the whole house.
Anybody have any thoughts on either issue I can pass along to the handyman in my life? Thank you, and I'll search elsewhere in the sub for info, too.
