Hybrid vs engineered timber flooring
Probably this has been asked a ton already, but need to make sure I understand this correctly before making a huge decision.
We bought an old 60s ground floor unit, which is completely carpeted, and the first thing we want to get sorted before even moving in is remove carpet and put on hard flooring.
Pretty much all posts suggest hybrid flooring, for following reasons.
- waterproof
- scratch restoration and very durable
- cheap and less labour intensive
- can be done in a day
- easy to maintain, just vacuum and mop and be done for the day
But I get attracted towards engineered timber, because I have heard from people that have applied say “it is the best floor in the world and hybrid can never ever resemble real wood”. So here’s what I understand about engineered timber flooring
- expensive, almost double the cost of hybrid flooring
- requires more floor preparation
- time consuming to install, hence labour is more expensive
- not as water durable.
- hard to maintain, requires special wood oil and stuff
My brain goes “this only our first house, don’t go crazy with renovation” but heart goes out “this is finally my own house, I deserve the best”
So still want to understand what would be the right long-term choice. Hybrid throughout the house? Or timber throughout the house? Or timber for dry areas and tiles for the kitchen?
Thanks!
