01 Sportster charging issues - Stator shows voltage but it's grounded
Hey guys,
Greeting from France! I'm having some trouble with the charging system on my 2001 Sportster. Had to bump start it the other day and realized the battery just isn't charging at all.
I checked the stator with a multimeter and i got 20V at idle and it goes up to 60V+ when revving.
Resistance between the pins is 0.4.
The thing is, when checking for ground, it IS grounded. A mechanic told me it’s fine as long as the voltage is there, but I have my doubts...
I already swapped the regulator for a brand new one but it didn't change anything.
Continuity between the regulator and the main fuse seems okay too.
The battery isn't new but it takes a charge just fine on the tender.
Right now, with the bike running and revving, the battery barely hits 12.7V.
Do you think the stator is toast because of that ground leak, even if the voltage looks okay? Any advice?
Thanks!
