Correcting past name omission (trans)
Hi everyone, I haven't seen exactly my situation about names and UK Visa applications.
US citizen, transgender, married, applying on a spousal visa (my spouse is applying for a Global Talent; they have a job offer in the UK).
I applied for and successfully received a sponsored work visa for a temporary period in the UK last year. On that visa application, I did not include my former name (I am trans). I lived and worked in the UK for several months.
Now my spouse and I are planning a permanent move to the UK. We are both in the US currently. I regret my earlier omission (I was in the height of fears about passports, being trans, etc. here in the US), and I think I should rectify this omission by including my name on the new application.
But I worry that the previous omission will be a reason to deny my visa. I also accidentally omitted some travel dates on my past application. Is it a good strategy to just write a cover letter saying I realized I had some omissions on my previous visa application that I have corrected on this application? It seems like saying less is probably better.
I don't want to jeopardize potential indefinite leave to remain in the future by keeping my past name off of this application. But I also don't want the visa to be denied. Thoughts?
