A lil background: So I am bursting to the seams with ideas for fics and I feel like either my brain or my notes apps will explode. Which one poofs first, idk anymore, but it’s 2:00 am and I am staring at the ceiling giggling like a lil shet after going off to Lalaland with my now fictional obsession who I have been chronically obsessed with for 2 years.
Anyways, I’m a beginner writer like totally beginner and I have writtten a grand total of 0 fully fleshed fics aside from some blurbs and hc’s. Back then I thought my writing wasn’t good enough and what better way to improve my writing than read books.
After reading a decent sized amount of books, I’m ready to start writing some fully fledged fics that are ready to leave the messy nest of my brain.
I’ve always been into fancy lore plays and canon divergence, but I’ve heard it can be hard for some pieces (obv I know it depends on which fandom you’re from but still). I like Alternate Universes so far and almost all of the fic ideas in my notes are some form of canon divergence or AU. Bad news is, I’ve also heard AU’s are hard to write.
But I wanna try anyways, even if I flop miserably to the writer’s equivalent of a faceplant in mud.
So how can I loreplay before foreplay when I’m neither good at loreplay or foreplay?
I find my main issue is I tend to info dump a lot and this leaves me unhappy with what I write. Say I start to write on some world end scenario like zombie apocalypse au or a royalty au (My two favorite tropes and I’m a webtoon/Manhwa reader) but then BAM you suddenly have a whole 9 page backstory of how the zombie au happened, the scientist that caused the outbreak, what are said scientist’s motivations, the where what when how when who of everything and then I get a fic of filler with no material and I have not even started writing on the two main characters.
Oh and to mention I self indulgently want to write x reader fics so even before the reader and the love interest are even introduced, the side character has his own backstory. Which is not what I’m trying to achieve here.
So my people, how to loreplay before foreplay when I info dump in my loreplay and suck at foreplay?
For god’s fcking sake if someone held a gun to my head I don’t think I can write good smut even then.

Ps: I’m kinda scared of being accused of AI writing these days even when I don’t use any AI or AI writing assistants. I’ve seen an author and their fics get flamed in one fandom because said author used quilbot. And while I do admit that author has a writing style that’s repetitive and sounds very AI, they posted a lot of proof to not be AI. So I’m very scared I will get crucified on a false allegation, or get accused of plagiarism.
Now those are scary. Top two fears of my beginner writing journey.
If any one is curious of what kind of books I tried reading, they are the full set of Hunger Games, six of crows duology, The way of kings by THE BRANDON SANDERSON. Pjo series (first two books Ehe), and maybe one or two books that I hated that I can’t even remember because I gave them all to my friends, it’s their problem now.
I’m trying to write for anime fandom like jjk, bllk, some hoyoverse games, even sprinkles of Naruto content in 2026, RE series cuz Leon Kennedy is too fine to ignore, and some more that I can’t think off the top of my head. And DOES ANYONE FROM SIMILAR FANDOMS WANNA BETA READ? Puhleaseeee, I pay in virtual hugs and kisses and rants.
