Finally got my hands on the original drawings of their portraits thanks to a Threads user, sweedishmeatballs, pointing out that the portraits are found in the Japanese guidebook! This will help tremendously.

--EDIT: IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT!!--

I've been made aware by user sweedishmeatballs from threads that the Japanese guidebook has their character portraits. With this, I came across a reddit user (they're gone unfortunately) that scanned the entire book which enabled to find and capture screenshots of their original portraits! This would have been soooo helpful from the beginning but I cannot be more grateful with this new resource! Major shoutout to them for putting me on game. No more distortions or guessing games. So far, I think Albert, Shana, Lavitz, Haschel and maybe even Dart needs to be done over. 🥲

This was a bit challenging because now I can't unsee the distortion in the original character portraits in the game. It's even worse when playing the game on a widescreen display.

Anyway, changed pretty much everything about the original. Uh... and that's it. Oh, I did stream this one so anyone interested in watching the VOD can do so here.

I'm expecting to see quite a bit of pushback, and it's probably valid. C'est la vie.

OKAY! Too many people complained about Dart, so I've redone him. I streamed the process this time, so if you'd like, you can watch that process here. My Twitch is InkJuse and I'll be streaming the rest from here forward. The VOD (Video on Demand) will expire in 7 days (Aug 16, 2026), so catch it while you can. I will likely stream later today and/or tomorrow (Mon, 8/10/26). Not sure how to notify but keep an eye out. I don't stream often so my competency could be improved in this area.

I know I said I'd come back with updates on the 7th, but I got too excited, plus I have other plans so.... MERU!

Okay, so after completing this, I realized that the portraits in game are stretched pixel versions of a squished image. 🥲 This would maybe explain why I was having somewhat a hard time with a few of them.

Anyway, question: would people be interested in a stream of me doing these? I already have a rough sketch of Hatchel/Haschel and 2 different line drawings of Albert completed. I'm mostly asking to perhaps eliminate doubt in my artistic abilities (though I know this isn't necessary). I realize I'm just reacting to the 2 or 3 AI comments. 💀

Thoughts? Also, should I make the linearts available for people to take a jab at?

Managed to find the official illustration for her portrait and, although it's still quite tiny, I was able to put it to good use.

While I welcome and appreciate the constructive criticism I've been receiving, if nothing too big of a deal, I'm not doing any edits this round. I can't please everyone.

EDIT: Scroll through the images to see the difference between the original and mine. I think some people may have not realized there are multiple images attached.

So I took more liberties this time because the pixels just couldn't be trusted, lol. I hope I did him justice. After doing this, I'm lowkey dreading the other men portraits except Albert. However, it's good because I need to draw more manly/older men so that it gets easier for me!

I was curious if high resolution images existed for the character portraits, which led to disappointment. So I thought it would be fun to see if I could do it while maintaining at least some integrity of the original; there's only so much I can make sense of from a handful of pixels. ^^;

Any thoughts? Critiques? Love it? Hate it? Continue with the rest of the cast? Stop?

EDIT: I used just Paint Tool SAI for the whole thing. There's also a gif included to show the difference between the original and mine.

I needed something to draw, so I decided to join the contest. Also needed to get back into the flow of drawing more to improve workflow and develop more of my style. Anyway, enjoy!

Poor things.

Had golden Incubation Researcher (avenge 4: Chromadrake) up until the last turn (ate it) and couldn't find Draconic Warden (Bat/Dthr: Chromadrake) at all.
