Get you an emergency wig

I love my natural hair, but sometimes we tussle.

I was on the brink of tears because my roller set did not come out well, and I know its a learning process, but it can suck. Is she beautiful? Yes. Is she what I planned? No.

So I grabbed this glueless wig from a ziploc in my closet, I put my fro into 2 dookie twists, slapped a cap on, and put this wig on. I didn't style it. I didn't add glue or melting spray. And I'm out the door.

Moral of the story: for all of us, there will be good hair days, and there will be bad hair days. Get you a wig for the bad hair days, something you can pull from under your bed, dust off, slap on, and still look good. Bonus points if its glueless to give your edges a rest.

Thats how you live to fight another day ❤️

I love my natural hair, but sometimes we tussle

There is no feeling like watching hair tutorials for 8hrs, working on your own hair for 4, sitting under the dryer to set it for 2, all for the style to be a fail.

I was on the brink of tears because my roller set did not come out well, and I know its a learning process, but it can suck. Is she beautiful? Yes. Is she what I planned? No.

So that tells me its a good time to let my natural hair rest because the last thing I want to do is cause mechanical damage.

I grabbed this glueless wig from a ziploc in my closet, I put my fro into 2 dookie twists, slapped a cap on, and put this wig on. I didn't style it. I didn't add glue or melting spray.

Moral of the story: for all of us, there will be good hair days, and there will be bad hair days. Get you a wig for the bad hair days, something you can pull from under your bed, dust off, slap on, and still look good. Bonus points if its glueless.

Thats how you live to fight another day ❤️

Vacay Wig approved

I had just a few hours to pack for a last minute excursion, so took this ONE wig to Colombia and Cancun. No backups.

Oh, and I forgot my flat iron, wax stick, biosilk and pillow rollers. All I had was a melt band, a bonnet, and some melting spray I kept in my bag. Not even a hair tie. 🤦🏾‍♀️

So I accidentally/inadvertently stress tested this wig for science and wanted to share!

Test 1: Humidity 🔬

This wig ran around the Guatapé rainforest and the beaches of Cancun with me, and it never felt too hot on my scalp. Or nape. Pic 1 is me by the river fresh off the plane and not dying. Even at home, it just feels really light and I legit forget I have it on. That’s probably why I forgot all my tools lol

Test 2: Water 🔬

This wig got wet. Like I’m talking about in the salt water with seaweed on my head and forehead deep in chlorinated pools. See pic 2.

It didn’t tangle or mat. The curls dropped, but into pretty beach waves and the chlorine didn’t affect the color. See pics 3 and 4.

I’d figured that since I didn’t have a flat iron or blowdryer with me, I’d be in the airport giving 'hard wig soft life’ because all I could do was wash and dry it with the room provided shampoo/conditioner and blow dryer. As you can see in pic 5 which was omw to the airport, it was giving soft beach life 💅🏾

Test 3: After Vacation 🔬

While she behaved all vacay, I figured she wouldn’t be the same when I got home because the only love it got was a few shower washes and some melting spray every other day. And I BABY my wigs at home.

I washed and conditioned it, let it air dry overnight, curled it with my flat iron, and y’all… it came right back. The curls AND the color held. See pic 6 for what it looked like this morning.

So yeah… the experiment was a success. Stress test passed. Vacay wig approved 🌴

My new all summer-long wig?!

Ok so this is LuveMe’s all-day curl in Ombre brown. And she may be my new ALL summer-long wig - like I may wear her every day this summer. 4 things I’m loving:

  1. I run really hot (like I may be perimenopausal hot lol) and this is so light and airy! Idk - maybe this one has some weird ventilation tech, or maybe they’ve figured out how to make the hair really lightweight. All I know is it’s 95 degrees where I am, and I’ve not ONCE had the desire to rip this one from my head once I get in the house like I normally do.

  2. She really is a glueless unit! The 2nd photo is me wearing it glueless with some edge control (it’s a 7x6 so the lace is only on my forehead). The 5th pic is straight out the box with my natural edges, and the 6th is after I melted with my natural edges. The melt is CRAZY good, but the hairline is so natural that I’ve been wearing this unit glueless every day for about a week now, and the cap fits nice and snug. I only add some melting spray if I’m going to be doing a lot or if it’s really windy outside. I’d never get over chasing a wig down the street, so better safe than sorry lol.

  3. The color!! I’m usually a ‘off black’ or a ‘natural brown’ girly, but I wanted to step out of my comfort zone so I gave this a shot. I was a little nervous about it at first, but I caught a pic of me in the sun and GIRL!!! This copper color is SOOO pretty on brown skin, and looks SOOO classy. And the way the face framing layers are colored makes it even better.

  4. The curls have gone no where. Other than bumping the front on the first day, I haven’t needed to curl her in the 1 week that I’ve worn it. That’s promising, because for some of my wigs, the first wash wipes out the curl pattern and I struggle to get the curl back. I’ll see how this does after its first wash and report back (no, I have not washed her yet, don’t judge me 😭)

I like easy as possible, and so far, this wig is easy in every way. The color gives classy rich auntie, the hair doesn’t make me overheat, the cap and hairline allow it to be glueless, and it’s held its style with no effort from me. I’ll let you all know what happens after the first wash, but right now, this wig is BAE

My new summer wig? Can I pull off the color?

So this may be my new summer wig, and 2 things did it for me:

  1. I run hot in the summer (like I may be perimenopausal hot lol) and this is so light and airy that I thought about sleeping in it tonight. I NEVER even entertain that thought, I’m the type to snatch it off as soon as I hit the door.

  2. The hairline blend was crazy before I added any melting spray. The 2nd pic is before I melted straight out the box, the 3rd is after I melted. It’s so seamless, I definitely won’t need baby hair, which I can’t have anyway because see point 1.

The only thing I need to grow on me is the color. I’m usually a ‘off black’ or a ‘natural brown’ girly, but I wanted to step out of my comfort zone. What do you all think of the color? Does it go okay with my skin tone?

Melting Guide (step-by-step)

Hey friends!

I got a lot of questions about melting the hairline on this wig, and thought I'd post a guide on how I do it! I am by no means good at this, but the method below has never failed me. I like to wear my wigs 'glueless,' meaning no lace glue, but I do allow products that mold it/stick to my head when needed.

First, the products and which picture its used in:

  • Used in 1st picture: Frontal Queen Melting Spray
    • Benefits: Seamless melt. Strong, all day hold. Stays put and allows me to wear it over night. It comes off easily with water
    • Con: Will slide off if I sweat too much lol
  • Used in 2nd picture: Ebin (see edit below) Melting Mousse (or any mousse really)
    • Benefits: Loose hold. Allows me to snatch the wig off when ready, no water needed. Melts well enough for me to get away with it out in the world
    • Con: Not as secure, not as good of a melt. Doesn't mold down the edges of the lace.
  • Used in 3rd picture: Water
    • Benefits: This is truely the ultimate glueless method. No product needed. Molds the lace to my head which is just a step above putting it on.
    • Con: I have to let go and let god lol. A strong wind has the potential to humble me and snatch my wig. The melt is not as good here either, the lace is apparent up close.

Second, the method:

  1. I put the wig on, position it, and brush the hairline back a little with a little water on the brush/comb.
  2. I take the product/water and put it on TOP of the lace to saturate it. I use a clean makeup brush, or my finger to be sure I get all in the lace.
  3. This is the most important step, especially if using the melting spray or mousse: I LET IT DRY. Like its no longer sticky or tacky and is dry to the touch.
  4. I then put on my melting band, and let it sit for at least 5 min.
  5. I take off the melting band, and I know I did it right if the band doesn't stick. And the pics above are what I get each time!!!

I have tried this method with an outre wig, and while it works ok, it seems to work best with HD lace wigs like the one I have on in the pics above. Just an observation, I don't have much knowledge on the different lace types, so maybe someone else can fill that part in.

I hope this helps! And if anyone has other products they can recommend for glueless wigs, please share!

Edit: I added a photo for the person who DMed me about how to style this wig - spray the wig with a little water in a spray bottle, use 2-3 flexirods, and let dry for 2 hours. You will get you those big sexy beach wave curls!

2nd Edit: OMG so apparently Ebin is racist and exclusionary to their black women employees!! Please check the comments for a story link to a former employees tiktok where she shares the details. The more you know - thank you to the people who made me aware!
