How to deal with soffits above kitchen cabinets?
We are redoing the kitchen in our 1990s colonial, which right now has terribly large soffits. We are lucky that they can be cut back to the depth of the cabinet. We are not able to remove them completely, so want to find the best way to incorporate them them. The designer has suggested to leave them as-is, with them sticking out ~4" past the cabinets to accommodate crown moulding between the cabinet and the bottom of the soffit (see first four pictures).
It feels like we could do something better. Picture 5 shows the crown moulding we have in the adjoining dining room. Thoughts on having the soffits cut back to go flush with the cabinets and putting the crown moulding on the soffit to match the dining room? And if we do that... should we color match the cabinets or keep it white? Cabinets are Fabuwood Pistachio (light gray-ish green).
Notes:
Yes, there will be a hood installed over the range. I'm saving my question on what style will go best for my next post in this very helpful sub!
We are planning to have the soffit cut back in the section to the right of the fridge where it overhangs the cabinets to the depth of counter.
If it matters... counters will be something like Virginia Mist (black/gray granite)
