General Manager took my brothers money to cover losses
Location: New Jersey
My brother works as a shift leader at a five guys in NJ. The store was robbed after my brother left the back door open during his shift. The general manager had him and the other employees cover the losses. My brother paid $800, the Gm paid $300, and other employees paid around $70-$200. The general manager told my brother that the district manager would fire him if he did not pay the $800. My brother was of the highest position during the time of the robbery. The general manager told my brother that if the owner finds out about the situation, he is likely to lose his job. My brother paid the $800.
Is my brother liable for these losses? If not, how should he go about getting the money back?
