Hot take after reheating for the millionth time: I didn’t really think much into it but just some thoughts I had about all the times Scott had clocked Shane (and even maybe what was going on with him and Ilya)

I used to just see those moments as him just chatting up the rookie, but now I’m wondering if he was actually testing the waters, maybe trying to figure out if Shane was like him.

In his final speech, Scott talks about loneliness and exhaustion of keeping this secret. He was a young hockey star, hearing all of the words that described him used against him and as an insult and spent years and years of hiding. And I can’t stop thinking… maybe in the back of his mind, he saw this rookie and recognized something familiar in Shane. He wasn’t there yet to be the “trailblazer” but when he was, he could vocalize how important it was for him to come out the way he did for others, and players like Shane.
