I’m currently working on a novel that involves several scenes in which the main character ends up drunk. The story itself is in a first-person perspective, so I want to really get into the mind of my character and what their internal dialogue may look like when they’re intoxicated.

The character is a young adult, and is still in their early stages of college. Most of the time, when the character is drunk, they’re either alone or with one other person who happens to be their significant other. The environments during these scenes are usually peaceful, and take place in inside the main character’s home. So they aren’t at a party with their peers or anything like that. They just drink to escape their problems, and are by themselves or one other person.

With this in mind, I once again how to portray this character’s inner monologue as accurately as possible.
