We’re a Vancouver company and just got Health Canada approval for a custom 3D-scanned CPAP mask

Hi, I’m Mik from Vitacore in Vancouver, and our team has been working on a custom CPAP mask project for the last while. We kept hearing the same thing from CPAP users over and over again: the biggest issue usually isn’t the machine, it’s the mask fit.

Leaks, pressure points, discomfort while side sleeping, issues with facial hair, nose bridge fit, etc. Most masks are still made as standardized shapes even though everyone’s face is completely different.

So we built a process where someone can do a short 3D face scan on their phone, and we manufacture a mask based on their actual facial geometry.

We recently received our Medical Device License from Health Canada, which was a pretty big milestone for our team.

One thing I’m personally proud of is that the R&D and manufacturing development happened here in Canada.

Still very early, but the response from the sleep apnea community so far has honestly been really encouraging.

If CPAP mask fit has been a challenge for you, you can learn more here:

Happy to answer questions if anyone’s curious about the technology/process side of it.

We just got Health Canada approval for a custom CPAP mask made from a 3D face scan. I’m the founder — here’s the honest story (and I’d value your feedback)

Full disclosure: I’m Mik, founder of Vitacore (Vancouver, BC). This is a product post, so if that’s not your thing, no worries. But if mask fit has ever made CPAP harder than it needed to be for you, this might be relevant.

The problem

One thing that kept surprising us while talking to CPAP users was how often the issue wasn’t actually the machine itself.

It was the mask.

Leaks once people fell asleep and started moving around. Pressure points. Poor fit around the nose bridge, facial hair, or just unique facial structure. So people tighten the mask more and more to compensate, which often just makes things even less comfortable.

Then comes the cycle of trying another mask, and another one after that.

The core problem felt pretty obvious:
Every face is different, but most masks are still built around standard sizes, small, medium, large, etc.

What we built

That’s what led us to develop FormFit, a custom-fit CPAP mask made using a 3D scan of your face.

You place the order, complete a quick phone scan (takes a few minutes), and we manufacture the mask based on your facial contours.

We recently received a Medical Device License from Health Canada, so it’s now available in Canada.

For those in the US: we’re actively working on FDA clearance and hoping to make it available there soon as well.

Why post here?

Honestly, because communities like this understand the day-to-day reality of sleep apnea and CPAP better than most product teams do.

We’re still early, still learning, and genuinely interested in hearing from people who’ve dealt with these issues themselves:
What’s worked, what hasn’t, and what you’d naturally be skeptical about with something like this.

Full disclosure: I’m Mik, founder of Vitacore (Vancouver, BC). This is a product post. If that’s not your thing, feel free to skip. But if mask fit has ever been the reason CPAP didn’t work for you, this might be relevant.

The problem

We kept hearing the same pattern from users: they don’t quit CPAP because of pressure or the machine. They quit because of the mask.

Leaks. Pressure points. Poor fit around the nose bridge, facial hair, or unique facial structure. So people overtighten to compensate, which makes things worse. Then it becomes an expensive cycle of trial-and-error across multiple masks.

The root cause is obvious: every face is different, and every mask is the same.

What we built

We developed FormFit — a process to create a CPAP mask customized to your face using a 3D scan.

You scan your face (about 3 minutes). We use that geometry to manufacture a mask designed specifically for your contours, then ship it to you.

We’ve now received a Medical Device License from Health Canada, so it’s available in Canada.

For those in the US: we're now working as fast as we can on FDA and hope to be available soon.

Why post here

Because this community understands mask fit better than most product teams, and honestly, because we're not too big to listen yet. We want direct input from people who’ve actually lived the problem. What works, what doesn’t, what you’d be skeptical of.

If you’re in Canada and want to take a look: vitacore.com/formfit

If you’re in the US (or elsewhere), we’re working on it.

Happy to answer questions or hear your thoughts.
