A scary experience in a shared auto — Gaur City girls, please be careful!
I’m a 28-year-old working woman in Okhla, Delhi, and I live in Noida. I want to share something that happened to me while travelling back from work.
One day, I took a shared auto from Noida Sector 52 Metro towards Gaur City. The auto was mostly occupied by office-going people and a few elderly men. An elderly man was sitting beside me.
During the journey, I felt that he was repeatedly touching me inappropriately. Initially, I thought it might be because of the bumps and jerks on the road, so I ignored it. He was also casually talking to me, so I didn’t think too much about it.
A few days later, I came across the same man in another shared auto. This time, there were three women, two elderly men and the driver. I was sitting on the back seat beside one woman and that same man.
As soon as the auto started moving, he started doing the same thing again—repeatedly moving his hand towards our chest area and pretending that it was happening because of the jerks.
This time, the woman sitting beside me noticed it too. She immediately told the driver, “Auto roko, ya is uncle ko utaro.”
That gave me the confidence to speak up as well. I told the driver, “Haan, in uncle ko utaro, ya phir jo lady aage baithi hain unhe peeche bula lo.”
The uncle eventually moved to the front, clearly embarrassed.
I’m sharing this because initially I doubted myself and kept thinking maybe it was accidental because of the movement of the auto. Please don’t ignore your instincts. If someone makes you uncomfortable, speak up. You are not overreacting.
To all the girls travelling around Gaur City and Noida—please stay alert, especially in shared autos. And if you witness something like this happening to another woman, please support her instead of staying silent. ❤️
Stay safe, girls. 🚨
