Why do people act like their dog can never be left alone?

I am at my wits end dealing with house sitting clients who will leave their dogs for over 8 hours but expect you to stay with them all day without any extra charge. I just arrived at a clients home where we discussed letting the dogs out every 4-5 hours, which worked with my schedule as I have other clients. Upon my arrival, I read the written note and it changed to 2-3 hours. I am about done with house sitting in general because this happens way too often. The same client asked me to be here way earlier than the rover booking said the day before, saying we "discussed it at our meet and greet". How do you even deal with people like this?

I had a meet and greet with this owner over a week ago, there house was messy, but it was generally clean. The owners told me there would be someone else staying before I got there. Upon walking into the house, there was an open food bag and kibble was thrown all over the floor. The litter box seemed like it hadn't been cleaned in days(five cats), there was poop on the stairs, ripped up carpeting, and a huge mess of dirty dishes in the kitchen. I mean the house is so incredibly dirty that I feel gross just sitting on the couch. What the hell. I'm fairly new to pet sitting, but I haven't had this happen before. I messaged the owner and sent pictures, they told me all of this is completely fine and normal.
