Staff turnover & ratios. What to do?
My baby is in the infant room at his current daycare (6wk-18months). When interviewing and on starting at daycare there were 4 primary teachers in the room with 8 infants. The ratio in our state is 1:4 though our facility includes an infant nap room which requires extra staffing. Babies are also supposed to be on their own schedule up until 18months, therefore the nap room must be open and staffed.
Within the last few weeks 2 of the 4 teachers have left the center. This week our third teacher is on vacation leaving only one primary teacher remaining. The room has been staffed with floaters and while meeting the state mandated ratio I have noticed some changes, like babies getting woken up from naps and not on their schedule (mine included). Does this warrant a conversation with the director?
My fear is twofold 1) I worry the director will not care about what I have to say given they have a long waitlist for infant care and 2) I worry that since the room is technically within ratio my concerns are not valid. Even though staffing has dropped 50% since starting at the center. Are they valid? What is the best way to address this concern?
