Currently I am a second year btech student, coming from a middle class family and I will graduate myself from this college with 11lakhs education loan+ intrest. my educational qualification is 10th-96,12th -94, current cgpa -9.1 The thing Is I am not able to find my career goal .look everyone wants to make money and that's apply on me too so I picked these btech path thinking that I will crack mncs or FAANG company, by doing coding or learning technical skills,will recieve a good amount of salary and settle in my life .but in the college when I tried to learn those things,it's just so boring for me that i stopped doing coding. I got too bored while just sitting on the laptop and do coding, improve syntax and then again debug .so I started thinking to do mba after btech but the only thing that was stopping me from doing mba is that education loan and that extra 2 yrs worth of my time . I know the job market right now that only top academic peers are making while other are just surviving or making enough to live(offcourse there are some cases). But thinng that was always in my mind but I never started it was preparing for UPSC. I am much more into white collar jobs as I am seeing my father.i am having that dream from class 10th but everytime I asked someone they tell me that it's too hard,you will not able to crack it ,it will take your 3-5 yrs of your life and still you will not make it ..so I never started its preparation.but now I am seriously thinking about upsc . But each time I start one thought always cross my mind "the path you are choosing is good?? If you grind yourself do other paths have high chances of getting you to top?if your roommates are going for internship while you are sitting preparing for UPSC ,how would I fell?? And what if I didn't make it ?? These thoughts keep crossing my mind and I am not able to do anything toward my goal.while i seriously want to go into good life postion before or at the age of 25. I need serious guidance on this .that what should I do ?? What should i choose? Grind myself in btech (seeing today job market)??or do mba instead??or do my dream job UPSC?? If anyone has same problem or some senior who can guide me . please help .as I want to start early in my career without any regrets. Correct grammar mistakes

Here’s your text with corrected grammar and clearer flow (keeping your original meaning intact):

Currently, I am a second-year BTech student from a middle-class family, and by the time I graduate, I will have an education loan of around ₹11 lakhs plus interest. My academic qualifications are: 10th – 96%, 12th – 94%, and current CGPA – 9.1.

The main issue is that I am not able to find my career goal. Like everyone, I also want to earn money. That’s why I chose the BTech path, thinking I would crack MNCs or FAANG companies by learning coding and technical skills, earn a good salary, and settle in life. However, when I tried learning coding in college, I found it very boring. Sitting on a laptop, improving syntax, and debugging repeatedly made me lose interest, so I stopped.

Then I started thinking about pursuing an MBA after BTech, but the only thing stopping me is my education loan and the additional two years it would take. I am also aware of the current job market, where only top candidates are earning well, while others are just managing to survive (of course, there are exceptions).

One thing that has always been in my mind, but I never started seriously, is preparing for UPSC. I am more inclined toward white-collar jobs, influenced by my father. I have had this dream since class 10th, but whenever I discussed it with others, they discouraged me by saying it’s too hard, that I might not be able to crack it, and that it could take 3–5 years of my life without success. Because of this, I never began preparation.

Now, I am seriously considering UPSC, but every time I try to start, a thought comes to my mind: “Is the path I am choosing right? If I work hard, do other paths have a higher chance of success? How will I feel if my roommates are doing internships while I am preparing for UPSC? And what if I fail?”

These thoughts keep troubling me, and I am unable to take action toward any goal. At the same time, I genuinely want to achieve a good position in life before or by the age of 25.

I need serious guidance on what I should do. What should I choose? Should I grind in BTech considering the current job market? Should I pursue an MBA? Or should I follow my dream of UPSC? Guide me please

Hey everyone,

I feel like this might be a dumb question, but I only recently (about a month ago) discovered HFT firms like Optiver, Jane Street, IMC, etc., and now I’m seriously interested in trying for them.

My background:

  • Tier 2 college (India), currently in 2nd year (CSE)
  • CGPA: 9+
  • Programming in C++
  • Solved 1000+ DSA problems
  • Codeforces rating: 1600+ (Expert)
  • Goal: reach 2300+ by end of 3rd year (trying seriously)
  • Planning to participate in ICPC as well

I know this is super competitive and I’m definitely not from a top IIT or math olympiad background, so I’m trying to understand realistically where I stand.

My questions:

  1. What more should I do from here to at least have a shot at HFT firms?
  2. How important is ICPC vs Codeforces rating vs projects?
  3. Should I focus more on:
    • Competitive programming (target 2200–2400+)
    • Math (probability, combinatorics, statistics)
    • Low-level systems / C++ optimization
  4. Do these firms even consider tier 2 students without referrals?
  5. Any specific roadmap you’d suggest for the next 1.5–2 years?

I’m not expecting shortcuts — just want a realistic direction so I don’t waste time doing the wrong things.

Would really appreciate honest advice (even if it’s harsh).

Thanks!
