After A LOT of experimentation and trial and error, I’m here to report that 1st and 2nd gen iPods work with regular flash storage (compact flash, SD cards, etc) and SYNCING works.

I had to write a utility to handle the transfers. The utility is also the one stop shop for flashing your cards and prepping them for the iPod.
