Honbul

Honbul

Honbul is a supernatural exorcism novel that follows an immortal young man who has long lost the will to live. Isolated within the confines of his home, he spends his days yearning for an end that never comes.

A series of unexpected circumstances eventually leads him to cross paths with ML, a seemingly ordinary school librarian who, in truth, is a Chief exorcist(Naja). Burdened by painful memories, MC harbors deep resentment toward Najas, making their relationship anything but simple.

Despite gradually growing closer, the two repeatedly clash, separate, and find themselves drawn back together by forces neither can fully escape. Their dynamic thrives on tension and emotional tug of war, blending enemies to lovers undertones with both high school and workplace romance.

MC is overwhelmingly powerful, though ML is formidable in his own right. However, his relentless devotion and spectacular yearning ensure that he suffers for love on more than one occasion, So if you like pining characters, you will likely appreciate.

What truly elevates Honbul for me is its prose. The narrative is richly textured, atmospheric, and exquisitely crafted, with vivid imagery woven throughout the story. At times, it feels less like a web novel and more like a literary work.

The main storyline has concluded, while side stories are currently being released. Its happy ending.

If you're uncertain whether the novel is for you, I highly recommend reading Chapter 152 on Ridibooks (one chapter free daily). It remains one of the most memorable and beautifully executed chapters in the entire series and offers an excellent glimpse into what makes Honbul special.

One of my favourite quotes:

Because of you, my world prospers and declines dozens of times a day.

You are the master of this desolate and splendid territory. You are a master more ruthless than anyone, yet more merciful than anyone. My day becomes perfect just because you are curious about my meals, but my day is ruined by a single word you toss or a single glance you send.

You probably don't know how painful this love is.

The original Korean novel/manhwa is available on Ridibooks, while the English novel/manhwa adaptation can be found on Manta.
